Troubleshooting and FAQ

What to check when something does not look right, and answers to the questions we get most.

Check these first

  1. The designer does not appear: is it enabled in the Vinyl lettering tab of the product data? Test with a default WordPress theme; use the shortcode [vinyl_sticker_tool] if the theme builds the product page differently.
  2. A feature is missing for customers: check its switch in Settings. Italic and underline, letter and line spacing, customer font upload and rush are off by default.
  3. The price looks wrong: check the material price, colour surcharges, the minimum price and the discount tiers. The pricing guide has worked examples.
  4. JavaScript errors in the console: deactivate other plugins temporarily to find a conflict, then contact us.
  5. An order says Design file missing: the order was placed before design files were stored. Ask the customer to send the design again.
  6. Pro licence activation fails: your server must reach twilper.com over HTTPS. See licence and updates.

Questions and answers

Which WordPress, WooCommerce and PHP versions are supported?

Free: WordPress 6.3+, WooCommerce 4.0+, PHP 7.4+. Pro: WordPress 6.3+, WooCommerce 8.0+, PHP 7.4+, and the free Vinyl Lettering Designer plugin.

Is the free plugin limited?

No. Every feature in the free plugin works without Pro, with no watermark and no licence key. Pro adds a production workflow: proof approval, a production board, job sheets with a QR code, batches nested on your vinyl roll with roll stock, and installation text in the Completed e-mail.

Does it work with my theme?

The designer is added to the product page by WooCommerce hooks and is designed to work with themes that follow the WooCommerce template structure. If your theme builds the product page differently, place the designer with the shortcode [vinyl_sticker_tool]. If something looks wrong, test with a default theme first to see whether the theme is the cause.

How does the customer set the size?

By letter height, by total width or by fitting the design inside an area. The preview shows the real size and the price follows from the area and the material you set.

Which files do I get with an order?

A cutting file in SVG for cut lettering, one SVG per foil colour with registration marks for multi-colour designs, and a print PDF for printed stickers. You download them from the WooCommerce order. The plugin does not talk to a cutting machine: you open the SVG in the cutting software you already use.

Why does a design not fit or get a warning?

The production check warns when letters are smaller than the material allows, when lines are too thin, when a small inner shape is a problem or when the design does not fit the roll width. The limits come from the Materials screen. The customer gets a one-click fix.

Can customers upload their own fonts?

Not by default. Switch on Allow frontend font upload in Settings, General if you want that. Uploaded fonts are checked for type and size. You can always upload fonts yourself on the Fonts screen if Allow backend font upload is on.

Does the plugin use Google Fonts?

Not by default. The plugin bundles open-licensed fonts and serves them from your own site. Once an administrator enables a Google font on the Fonts screen, the visitor's browser loads that font file from fonts.gstatic.com on pages with the designer, which sends the visitor's IP address to Google.

How does pricing work?

The price per item is the area in dm2 times the material price, plus colour surcharges, with quantity discounts and a minimum price per item. Optional: a surcharge per extra foil colour and rush pricing. The price that is charged is always recalculated on the server.

Can I turn features off?

Yes. Every customer-facing feature has its own switch in Settings. A developer can also turn the designer off for a specific product with the filter vst_designer_allowed.

What happens to my data when I delete the plugin?

By default only the scheduled tasks and temporary data are removed. Your settings, templates, fonts and saved designs stay. If you switch on Delete all plugin data when the plugin is deleted in Settings, Advanced, deleting the plugin also removes its settings, templates, uploaded fonts, stored cut files and cart previews, and the designs customers saved. Orders stay in WooCommerce.

Does it work on multisite?

The plugin is meant to be activated per site. When you delete it on a multisite network, the clean-up runs for every site in the network: scheduled tasks and temporary data are always removed, and the rest only for sites where the delete-all-data option is on.

Can I use it for stickers and signs as well as lettering?

Yes. Next to cut lettering you can switch on full-colour printed stickers, and you can turn templates into WooCommerce products.

Which languages are included?

Dutch, German, French, Spanish and Simplified Chinese. WordPress picks the language.

Can developers extend it?

Yes. The plugin has filters and actions with the prefix vst_ and a JavaScript object, window.VSTDesigner. See the developer page.

How many sites can I use Pro on?

Pro: 1 site. Business: 5 sites. Agency: unlimited sites. Lifetime: 1 site. All plans contain the same features.

What happens when my Pro licence ends?

Pro keeps working. Renew the licence to keep receiving updates.

What is the refund policy?

There is a 14-day money-back guarantee on your first purchase. Yearly plans renew every year and can be cancelled at any time; the running year is not refunded beyond the guarantee. See the Terms of Service.

Which licence is the code under?

Free and Pro are both licensed under the GPLv2 or later, so you may use, modify and redistribute the code under the GPL. A Pro licence key gives you updates and support for the paid period. It is personal and not transferable.

What does Lifetime include?

A one-time payment with updates and support for as long as the product is maintained. Lifetime is limited to 50 licences. Terms of Service
